Gender and Crime
Among other predictors of criminal behavior is the gender factor. The gale group Inc. in 2002, reported that men commits more crime and this cuts across all groups, societies and nearly every crime category.
Has this changed overtime?
Do women still commit fewer crimes compared to their male counterparts?
Some have said that these questions is no longer what we need answers to but why crime rate among the female folks is gradually overtaking the male gender. Afterall, there is a popularly said adage that goes 'what a man can do, a woman can do better'. Now we hear of women engaging in unprecedented history of criminal activities.
However, others still hold firm to the idea that women commits fewer crimes and whatever illegal a woman does, she does to provide for her family and make sure her children are brought up in a stable environment.
Now the question are
1. Do women really commit fewer crimes than men?
2. Are the figures misleading?
Some sociologists have suggested that females offences are constantly under recorded by the authorities.

we need surveys and statistics to show, left to me i will say there are as many female criminals as there are male criminals. what might differ is the type of crime they commit
ReplyDeleteAll though, I'm not quite certain as to which sx commits more crime and while I agree with Sisi that we need survey and statistics to come up with a viable result, I doubt if such information will be correct cause we live in a society whereas the male sex is more victimised when it comes to crime while the females go unsuspected. Which brings me to supporting Sisi's opinion that "there are as many female criminals as male criminals" therefore there should be no discrimination of sex whenever crimes are being investigated.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to what Sisi has said, crimes committed by women are often overlooked because of the "soft" nature a woman unlike the male who often display physical strength.
